Mothers Day sessions

This week we look back on some of our favourite mother and daughter/son sessions in the studio.  From locations to studio and whatever age you are these are always such worthwhile sessions.  To have a photograph of yourself and your mum, parents or significant other I just don’t think its something you will ever regret doing.  So hi to all the mums out there for being such legends and get in touch if you would like to book in a mothers day session with your special person this mothers day.

Nicola Nolan – The Reinvention Coach

Here at Beautiful You we love to share the stories of the women we photograph, and hear how they felt about their portrait experience.  We’re so proud of the feedback that we get, and so pleased that even the most nervous of our clients always have such a great time with us.

We recently photographed Nicola Nolan, The Reinvention Coach, who was looking to update her headshots for her business.  Read more about Nicola, her inspirational journey, and her very amusing feedback below …..

Tell us a bit about yourself ….
I am a proud Irish Australian woman. I was born and raised in Dublin, Ireland and return every year to see my many loved ones there. I left Ireland ten years ago to explore the world, and myself and my now husband Robbie stopped in Perth in 2008 and never left!  I am a Certified Integrative Nutrition Health Coach with 15 years prior experience in Corporate HR and Executive Search Consulting.  I am a driven individual with high expectations of myself and in the Corporate world my life was my work, and the environments were aggressive, target driven, high stress and fast paced.  My way of life eventually took its toll and I got pretty sick.  The next year was spent in and out of specialists offices looking for solutions and I was regularly popping pain medication just to get me through my days.  Finally I decided out of sheer frustration that it was up to me alone to regain control of my health.  I made some major adjustments to my life, spent a lot of time researching and decided to study to qualify as a Health Coach.  Today I run my own Health and Career Coaching practice and every day get to work with strong, inspiring people whose stories I often recognise in my own.  I am very privileged to have a ringside seat in their lives, supporting, empowering and encouraging them throughout their exciting journey.

What is your business and what do you do?

I call myself The Reinvention Coach and I work in the Wellness Industry.  I believe in prevention rather than prescription. Achieving balance in our relationships, career and exercise is as important as the foods we eat. My clients have specific goals for their health, career and life and I support them to get the best job by having the best resume and interview skills in addition to supporting and empowering them towards optimal health and happiness through my Health Coaching programs.

Today a lot of us struggle to find a healthy balance between work and personal life. My clients regularly wake up feeling tired and continue to feel this throughout their day. They want more energy to fit exercise into their day. They struggle to prioritise their needs before others, often feeling isolated and craving more meaningful connections in their lives. It is very common for my clients to be confused about what “healthy” actually means and they are confused by the many conflicting messages they see every day of the week.  They often make food choices that result in feelings of guilt and shame, and regularly feel overwhelmed with their competing stresses in life.

Through my program I support and educate my clients to make lasting changes – it’s not a one size fits all quick fix solution. Together we introduce new yet manageable habits, and most importantly these changes are enjoyable and move at a pace that results in a feeling of achievement. I believe the only way to experience permanent and lasting change is when it feels less like a punishment but is easily integrated into the existing framework of your life.

How did you begin?

I could not ignore the excitement I felt when I first discovered the course content at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition – their core values closely echoed my own and I enrolled because I wanted to make a difference in people’s lives.  I spent years of precious time and hard earned money on prescription medication and conventional medical specialists who, although extremely educated and experienced, made me feel prodded and prescribed rather than heard or understood.  I am happiest when I am listening, educating and empowering my clients so they can stop dreaming about their idea of a perfect life and start living it!!  So I studied at night and worked by day, I loved it so much it actually gave me energy despite the big hours I was putting in!  My Career Coaching Business was born organically through a 15 year career in Corporate HR and Recruitment.  I have been on the other side of the table and now I get to share the inside track with my clients so they can nail their dream job!

What are your ultimate goals for your business?

Ultimately I want to own a Retreat in the Hills where people can quite literally run towards it when they are feeling overwhelmed by the competing demands of life.  I am concerned about what I call an ‘epidemic of overwhelm’ in our society today.  We just don’t stop, even when we shut the door to the world in our own homes at night – it’s literally never ending and so exhausting! I am using levity here, but it comes from a more serious concern about the rising levels of depression, anxiety and, in extreme and all too often cases, suicide. People need an avenue to just check out and run before they get to a point of utter desperation. I want the Retreat to be affordable though! I can’t afford 90% of the Retreats around WA or Bali so I am assuming there are others in the same boat as I. I don’t want people to look at the cost and feel like they won’t eat for a week because it’s so expensive to stay – if anything this would make you feel even more trapped and hopeless.

I am from Ireland so I would also like to open one there, but that’s a way off just yet.  Crawl, walk, run they tell me!

What did you think of the experience of getting your photos taken?

I contacted Stef because of her ethos behind operating Beautiful You. I work with women every day who look in the mirror and see a completely different person to the one their loved ones see everyday.  We lack confidence, often struggle with body acceptance and are the last to realise how wonderful we really are. I loved that Stef just wanted women to feel beautiful in their own skin – just as they are – and because I was incredibly terrified of being in front of a camera I made the decision she was the woman for the job!

Stef has a calm reassuring manner and she is quite intuitive.  She matched me with a gorgeous hair and makeup artist who sat me down and reassured me I would look amazing, and I finally started to calm down for the first time that day.  Once it came time to get dressed and take photos I was mildly self conscious, but there was no one else in the studio that day except for the three of us and I felt safe.  I actually got quite comfortable quite quickly and started to laugh naturally rather than because I needed to for the camera! Our last set of shots are the ones I genuinely love the most.  For starters I was in my jeans, which is my go to wardrobe, and Stef had me sit on a couch just inside the studio door. It started raining heavily and the wind picked up just as I sat down, my perfectly coiffed hair started to get wet but it was totally hilarious!  Hands down, my favourite shots of the day I think because they epitomised real life!  It’s not staged, it just happens to you sometimes despite your best efforts to make it look perfect!

I was literally high as a kite after the shoot.  I closed the car door, drove out of earshot of the studio and just squealed utter glee for a couple of minutes!  I felt like I could conquer the world after that morning in the studio.  I felt beautiful and strong and valid.  It was incredibly empowering.

Returning with my husband a couple of weeks later to choose my photographs was also a beautiful memory for me. I really deliberated about taking him as having the photographs taken was my journey, but I decided to ask him at the last minute and he agreed to come. We had quite a few beautiful photographs to choose from that day and each time Stef put a new photo on the big screen I noticed him shifting in the seat alongside me. He was blown away and wanted to buy every photograph!  He still agonises about the ones we had to leave behind!

Where have you used your new headshots?

I have used them on all of my social media, my website, my email signature and intend to use them for future bios. I ordered a print especially for my Mum as she insisted I buy one of the dresses I was wearing that day, and Stef loved it too, so Mum now has a new print for her wall of fame back in the house in Dublin. I actually hand delivered it to her during a surprise visit one week later!

What does MYOB have to do with portraiture?

Last month gorgeous Brooke of “Brooke’s Books” came to the studio for some new corporate shots.  We got talking about all things TAX ( stick with me here! ) check out a bit about Brooke below and her gorgeous new corporate shots she is now using for her business.
Who are you?
I am a registered BAS Agent, award winning MYOB certified consultant and the owner of a Bookkeeping and Consulting company.
What do you do?
My aim is to assist and empower small business owners, especially women, in managing their business finances. The majority of my time is spent consulting with new and existing business owners on the correct accounting software package and providing assistance in the areas they maybe struggling with.
What is your business?
We provide a variety of services which include;  accounting software solutions, one on one and group training, consulting, as well as a range of bookkeeping and BAS services. We also work in conjunction with the two leading software companies in Australia, MYOB and Xero.
How does your business help the busy woman today?
My business focuses on the day to day running of a small business. I find the majority of my clients feel overwhelmed when it comes to keeping their BAS up to date or remembering when they need to lodge their superannuation. With our focus on cloud accounting, we take the pressure off managing GST, invoices, expenses and payroll. At Brooke’s Books we are a support hub which give the business owners freedom to get back to what they do best.
Where have you used your new headshot?
I had my photos taken for the Every Women Expo which I attended this year. One of the photos was blown up to a life size poster and was used on the walls of my display stand. I have also used the photographs for business cards and brochures.

Interview with life coach Elise Carr

Last month model and life coach Elise Carr visited our studio.  After her session we sat down and chatted about herself, her role as a life coach,  her insight into the world of Tantra and I have to ask her for her yummy recipe for her Naked Model Shoot Bomb Raw treats!!

Enjoy ladies till next time

Stef – Beautiful You xxxDSC_5434low

Can you tell us a bit about yourself? I’m a holistic life empowerment coach with a focus on the Divine Feminine and Yoni Power as well as sacred sexuality and spirituality. I work predominantly with women who are ready to step into and live a holistic empowered life from the inside out through bespoke one-on-one coaching, in workshops, talks and through my speaking and writing in Australia and around the world. I’m also a Reiki master, Tantra practitioner, artist and model, currently writing my second book on the power of the yoni!

How did you begin? My work must have started in the womb as I have always felt a calling to learn, gather and apply as much knowledge and wisdom as possible to assist and guide others to shine their light brightest for the greater good.

What is StellaMuse? StellaMuse is a platform to bring together all of what I do to share with an international tribe of StellaSouls so they may insight action in their own lives! On stellamuse.com I aim to inspire and ignite a flame of inner knowing, a belief in self, to fuel an unwavering commitment to a holistic life – be it by finding life purpose and changing your career, awakening your sacred sexuality personally and in your relationships, healing traumas, clearing stagnation and further expanding your consciousness to connect deeper with yourself, your beloved and unity with all.

What events do you having coming up? My next event is the Stella Shakti Temple at Yoga Alchemy in Northbridge on Sunday August 30th. This is a sacred, safe space offering potent, juicy, wisdom to enrich, awaken and empower your life in a practical way while connecting your physical, mental, energetic and emotional selves. Part of what the women attending will learn includes how to awaken their Divine Feminine Shakti and how to apply Divine Shakti Energy in the every day. The ladies will learn about the Yoni and apply its power to change their life from the inside out. There will also be a raw vegan high tea dessert, guided mediation and workbook. Ladies can CLICK HERE for details and tickets

Any advice to woman about how to rekindle, rediscover their sexuality? Start with yourself, by yourself. As women we are programmed to give and put others first, thus wanting to please our partner before ourselves. But to truly connect with another on an intimate, heart connected, soul entwined level, you must first commit to exploring, owning and honouring your Divine self and all of who you are.

The Stella Sensual Rekindling is something I suggest to clients and which I enjoy practicing myself:

  • Start with creating a time and space just for you (on your bed, on a cushion in front of a mirror, on a towel in the backyard!)
  • Slow down and connect with your body temple
  • Breathe. Complete deep breathing has the power to transform your life!
  • Relax into the physical connection by being alert to your emotions. How do you feel? What feels nice? What makes you feel sexy? Awakened? Light? Safe? Protected? Nurtured?
  • Notice the energy shifting in your body. What are the subtle effects inside of you that you can begin to notice and become aware of?
  • Enjoy this, sit with this, breathe this in, allow it to move through you
  • When you feel ready say thank you to your perfect, Divine body temple and all that you are
  • Know you can come back here, create this space and reconnect with yourself whenever you choose

Can you share your yummy raw chocolate recipe of those amazing treats you brought to the shoot?

Sure, my Model Shoot Bombs are a fav raw organic treat of mine to whip up for the team, to enjoy after a shoot or as an after dinner delight!

* All ingredients are organic, pure and sourced locally when possible

Naked Model Shoot Bombs:

3 cups of cashew/hazelnut mylk pulp (after you make some Amazing nut Mylk use the pulp that is left over to up-cycle as the base of your Bombs!)

3 heaped tbs of organic almond butter (I’m a fan of Artisan)

6 pitted and soaked medjool dates

½ tsp of Himalayan salt

½ tsp of pure vanilla bean powder

¼ tsp of cinnamon

2-3 tbsp of maple syrup

3 tbsp of cacao nibs

2-3 heaped tbsp of cacao powder

1-2 heaped tbsp of carob powder

3 tbsp of coconut oil (I love Wild Harvest)

3 tbsp of macadamia oil

  • Combine in a food processor or mix by hand for a chunkier consistency.
  • Shape into marble size or golf ball size balls and place in the freezer to set.

Model Shoot Bomb choc coating:

1 cup raw cacao powder

½ cup of Jarrah honey – as it’s medicinal! (For a pure vegan option you can use maple syrup, Agave syrup or brown rice syrup – please note Agave is very sweet while the brown rice syrup is not as potent, so play with your measurements for your ideal sweetness!)

½ cup of coconut oil

½ tsp of sea or Himalayan salt

(You may enjoy adding a couple of drops of essential peppermint oil if you desire an extra choc minty taste to bite into!)

3 tbs of cacao butter (melted using the double boiler technique)

  • Once you melt the cacao butter add your coconut oil to blend in with and combine.
  • Add the rest of the ingredients and stir until an even consistency is made.
  • Prepare a flat dish, tray or plate suitable for the freezer and line it with bake paper to ensure your Bombs don’t stick.
  • Removed the naked Model Shoot Bombs from the freezer and place them one at a time on a large fork – individually dip and roll them around in the raw chocolate.
  • Place them one at a time back on the lined dish of choice with a small gap between each.
  • Once you have coated each of them once pop the Bombs back in the freezer and allow them to set for 2-3 minuets before removing them and repeating the dipping process another 1-2 times. (Triple coated is heavenly!)
  • Once double or triple dipped return the Bombs back into the freezer and allow them to set for at least an hour.
  • Serve your Model Shoot Bombs on their own as a dessert or enjoy with a warm mug of chai or herbal tea. They are perfect after your shoot or at the end of the day!

If you love those you’ll also love Super Stella Bliss Bombs

With Love, Elise. XOX

how did you find the experience of getting your photo taken

One of the most fascinating parts of the Beautiful You Studio is that everyday we are blown away by the incredible woman who walk through our door! Meet Louise she’s awesome! Louise visited the studio for new corporate shots to use across her social media and work platforms :)  I sat down with Louise after her session and asked her a few questions :)

Q – who are you and what is your profession?
My name is Louise Archer and  I work for Toshiba Medical Systems as Global Marketing Manager for Ultrasound, based in Nasushiobara in Japan. I’ve spent most of my life working in clinically in Diagnostic Imaging and the last 15 years in the corporate environment with Toshiba.  I love the company I work for, amazing people, doing amazing things on a daily basis..
Living in Japan is a wonderful

cultural experience which I am really embracing.
Q – what brought you to the studio to get new corporate images?
A couple of reasons, firstly because of my job, people need a good photo for various events and I only had an old iPhone picture that I used, it didn’t look very professional and so I thought an update was in order.
Secondly, part of the getting “into” the culture has got me writing a blog called “Just Life (in Japan)” and also writing for the tourist website “Japan Travel” amongst other things.
I worked out I have about 10 different online photos representing the sites and social networks I used, so I was keen to get one great photo and use it everywhere..
Q – how did you find the experience of getting your photo taken
I loved it, it was very casual and relaxed, having hair and makeup done all in one place made it easy.   I really loved that we used natural light for the photos…  Plus they turned out great, so I couldn’t be happier.  I’ve spent the morning changing my “profile pic” on 14 different sites :-)
The makeup was also great, I left the studio and went and got my passport photo done – first decent passport photo I have ever had !
To see some of the amazing pics an stories from louise’s adventures in Japan her blog can be found here http://louozinjapan.blogspot.com.au  Also see if you can find her new updated Beautiful You headshot! looks great!

A new shoot style

A few weeks ago I was lucky to have gorgeous model Georgia Gibbs stop by the studio to shoot for an ongoing project I’m currently shooting called 5min with for online blog Style Voyeur its a very candid raw photo session and and interview with the model involved. You can see it here online  http://stylevoyeur.com/2015/03/5minwith-georgia-gibbs/

This got me thinking of the way photography is changing and the style of womans photography is changing  I guess maybe we are more liberal than every before and we don’t feel scared to embrace who we are and show it through photographs that we can keep as memories forever. So last week I tried this really raw lighting style with a pre wedding shoot client and the results were amazing!!  A modern approach to shooting sexy photographs of woman which is both classy and sexy all at the same time. I would love to know what you think! If you came in for a photo session would you like this style of shooting?
